Off-Hour Backups
For maximum efficiency, we recommend that you configure BackJack
to run your backups during off-hours. As a Mac user, you can take
advantage of a great feature of the Mac OS ... the ability to
set your Mac to automatically turn itself either on or off at
a predetermined time.
What this means is that your computer does not have to be left
on overnight just so that BackJack can perform its backup. Rather,
you can configure your Mac so that it turns itself on automatically
right before your backup is scheduled to begin. As a feature of
BackJack, you can tell it to shut down your computer once the
backup process has been completed.
The cost savings are great! Your computer will only have to be
on during the backup process itself.
How you configure your Mac to automatically turn itself on or
off will differ according to the model you're using. For example,
here's how you set up a Power Mac 7100:
Under the Apple Menu, select Control Panels. Once there, choose
Auto Power On/Off. You will be allowed to choose from several
different settings (for example, you can set it to automatically
turn on your computer every day at a specific time, every other
day, weekends only, etc.) Once you determine the settings you
want, simply close the window and the changes will be saved.
NOTE: While the Auto Power On/Off feature is available for almost all
computers made by Apple, there are some exceptions. Those that
do not have this feature include Compact Macs such as the SE30,
Quadra/Centris Power 610 or the Power Mac 6100.
Newer Macs use the Energy Saver Control Panels instead.
